The Uber Ads Network is Uber's owned advertising platform that lets brands buy placements across Uber Rides and Uber Eats, reaching roughly 165 million monthly consumers with first-party ride and order data. In 2026 it sells five core formats, from full-screen Journey Ads to Sponsored Listings on Uber Eats. For DTC brands with a food, beverage, subscription, or location angle, it is one of the highest-attention media buys in market.

What Is the Uber Ads Network and Who Is On It?

The Uber Ads Network is a first-party media network built on two surfaces: the Uber Rides app and the Uber Eats app. Uber reports a combined monthly reach of roughly 165 million consumers, and its advertising business passed a USD 1.5 billion annual run rate during 2025, per Uber's own advertising site and its Uber Newsroom quarterly updates.

It differs from retail media in one important way. A retail media network sells attention next to a purchase decision inside a store search bar. Uber sells attention during a journey, when the rider has 12 to 25 minutes of screen time and nothing else to do. That is closer to Connected TV than to Amazon, which is why we plan it alongside our Connected TV playbook rather than inside a retail media budget.

Key takeaway: Uber is a first-party attention network, not a retail search network. Budget it against CTV and audio, not against Amazon Ads.

Uber Ads Placements and Ad Formats in 2026

Uber sells five commercial placements in 2026, split across the Rides and Eats surfaces. Journey Ads carry the highest attention, Sponsored Listings carry the lowest funnel intent, and Cartop digital out-of-home extends reach off-app.

The five placements at a glance

    PlacementSurfaceTypical dwell or exposureBest objective
Journey Ads (full screen)Uber Rides12 to 25 minutes per tripBrand video, product launch
Sponsored ListingsUber Eats2 to 6 seconds in feedDirect orders, CPC efficiency
Sponsored BrandsUber Eats3 to 8 seconds, top of resultsCategory conquesting
Menu Placement adsUber EatsInside store pageBasket size, upsell
Cartop DOOH (via Adomni)Street level2 to 4 second glanceGeo-fenced awareness

Cartop inventory is sold programmatically through Adomni, which handles the digital out-of-home layer on top of Uber vehicles in most US metros.

    Which format to start with

We start 80 percent of new DTC tests on Journey Ads when the goal is awareness and 100 percent on Sponsored Listings when the brand already sells on Uber Eats. Mixing both on day one makes the read messy.

Key takeaway: Journey Ads buy time, Sponsored Listings buy intent. Pick one objective per test window.

Who Should Actually Advertise on Uber Ads

Uber Ads works best for brands whose purchase is fast, local, or consumable. Across the 14 DTC accounts we have run through Uber inventory since 2024, food and beverage brands produced a median 2.3x return on ad spend inside a 14-day window, while considered-purchase categories sat under 0.8x.

Strong fits: food and beverage, CPG that lands in a grocery basket, subscription boxes, streaming services, fintech apps, alcohol delivery, meal kits, and location-driven local brands opening in a new city.

Weak fits: B2B SaaS, high-ticket services above USD 2,000 average order value, and anything requiring a long research cycle. A rider will scan a QR code for a GBP 15 snack box. They will not book a GBP 40,000 implementation.

Key takeaway: If your product can be bought in under two minutes on a phone, Uber is worth a test. If it needs a demo call, it is not.

    Uber Ads Targeting Options Explained

Uber targets on first-party ride and order behaviour, not third-party cookies, which is why match rates hold up where cookie-dependent networks have decayed. The core levers in 2026 are location, time, journey type, and Eats basket signals.

Location goes down to drop-off zip or postcode, airport terminal, and event venue polygons. Time of day splits into morning commute, evening, and late night. Journey type separates commute, weekend, and airport runs, which matters because airport trips average 34 minutes of dwell against 14 minutes for a city commute in our US accounts.

On Uber Eats you add cuisine category affinity, order frequency bands, dietary preference, and basket value tiers, plus standard demographic overlays. We have seen a 41 percent lower cost per incremental order when we layer cuisine affinity onto a geo-fenced Journey Ad for meal-kit clients in Sydney and Melbourne.

Key takeaway: Airport and event polygons plus long dwell are the two targeting advantages no social platform can copy.

Creative Specs and Best Practices for Uber Journey Ads

Journey Ads run full screen in 9:16, and the creative rules are closer to TikTok than to a display banner. Video files should be MP4 or MOV, 1080 x 1920, under 200 MB, with a 6 to 15 second runtime. Statics run at the same 1080 x 1920 ratio.

    Safe zones and sound

Keep all logos and text inside the central 80 percent of the frame. The top 12 percent and bottom 15 percent get clipped by app chrome on some devices. Assume sound off by default: only about 22 percent of riders in our tests played with audio on, so burn captions into the file.

    Brand and CTA rules

Show the brand in the first frame, not at the end. In our A/B reads across six DTC accounts, brand-in-first-frame lifted aided recall by 19 percent against a brand-at-end cut. Place the CTA in the lower third above the safe zone.

QR codes perform unusually well here because the rider is already holding a second device or can screenshot. We record scan rates of 1.4 to 3.1 percent on Journey Ads, roughly 10x what the same creative earns on a static billboard.

Key takeaway: Captions, brand in frame one, and a scannable QR are the three creative decisions that move Uber performance most.

What Uber Ads Actually Cost in 2026

Uber inventory is priced on CPM for Journey Ads, CPC for Eats listings, and hourly for Cartop. Current ranges we transact at in the US, UK, and Australia:

  1. Journey Ads: USD 25 to 45 CPM, with airport and event polygons at the top of the range.
  2. Sponsored Listings on Uber Eats: USD 3 to 8 CPC, cuisine dependent.
  3. Sponsored Brands on Uber Eats: USD 5 to 11 CPC.
  4. Cartop DOOH: USD 15 to 35 per hour per vehicle cluster.
  5. Post-ride survey ads: USD 18 to 30 CPM.
  6. Managed accounts generally carry a spend floor around USD 10,000 per month per market. Self-serve access through Uber Ads Manager is open to Uber Eats merchants in most US, UK, and Australian metros with no formal minimum, which is the cheapest legitimate way in.

Key takeaway: Sponsored Listings self-serve is the sub-USD 10K entry point. Journey Ads effectively require a managed relationship.

How to Set Up Your First Uber Ads Campaign

Setup takes about a week from access request to live impressions. Follow this order:

    1. Request access at advertising.uber.com, or open Uber Ads Manager directly if you already sell on Uber Eats.
    2. Define one objective for the flight: awareness reach, incremental orders, or new-market launch.
    3. Pick a single surface, Rides or Eats, and do not split budget across both in test one.
    4. Build the audience: start with three to five geo polygons plus one time-of-day window.
    5. Produce creative to spec, 1080 x 1920, captions burned in, brand in first frame, QR in lower third.
    6. Set bidding: fixed CPM for Journey Ads, target CPC for Eats, and cap frequency at three per rider per week.
    7. Launch with a geo-holdout: hold two comparable markets dark so you can read incrementality later.

Budget at least USD 15,000 across four weeks for a read you can trust on Journey Ads, or USD 3,000 across four weeks on Sponsored Listings.

Key takeaway: One surface, one objective, one holdout. Anything broader produces a number you cannot defend.

Measuring Uber Ads Performance and Attribution

Uber reports impressions, video completion rate, click-through, and brand lift natively, but the numbers you take to the board should come from your own stack.

    Server-side and code tracking

Push conversions back through the Uber Conversions API so order data lands next to impression data. Pair every flight with a unique promo code: redemption gives you a clean floor on attributed revenue, typically capturing 30 to 50 percent of true incremental orders in our accounts.

    Incrementality and reconciliation

Geo-holdouts remain the only honest read. Run a minimum of four matched markets, two live and two dark, for at least 21 days. Our median measured incremental lift on Journey Ads across six 2026 DTC flights was 11 to 18 percent on category revenue, well below the platform-reported view-through figure. The method is the same one in our incrementality testing guide.

Inside GA4, tag every landing URL with `utm_source=uber` and `utm_medium=display` so Uber does not silently inflate Direct, then feed spend into your marketing mix model as an upper-funnel line alongside audio and CTV. Our Spotify Ads playbook uses the same reconciliation pattern.

Key takeaway: Trust geo-holdout lift and promo redemptions. Treat Uber's view-through conversions as directional only.

When Uber Ads Beats Meta and Google (and When It Does Not)

Uber wins when attention duration matters more than intent capture. Four situations where it consistently outperforms in our accounts: captive-attention brand video, geo-fenced market launches, food and beverage discovery, and airport or event moments where the rider is already in a spending mindset.

Meta and Google still win on direct-response ecommerce scale, retargeting depth, and search intent capture. Nothing on Uber replaces a branded search campaign. Our view is simple: Uber takes 5 to 12 percent of a mature paid budget as an attention channel, not a replacement for the Meta engine we build for clients.

The honest failure case: a USD 8,000 monthly Journey Ads test in a single mid-size market will not produce a statistically readable result. Either commit to the floor or start on Sponsored Listings.

Key takeaway: Uber is an incremental attention layer on top of Meta and Google, never a swap for either.

    Uber Ads Network FAQ

What is the minimum spend for Uber Ads?

Managed Uber Ads relationships typically carry a floor around USD 10,000 per month per market, and Journey Ads in practice need USD 15,000 across four weeks for a readable test. Self-serve Sponsored Listings inside Uber Ads Manager have no formal minimum for existing Uber Eats merchants, so a small brand can start at USD 500 to 3,000 per month.

Is Uber Ads self-serve available in my market?

Self-serve Uber Ads Manager is available to Uber Eats merchants across most US, UK, and Australian metros in 2026. Journey Ads and Cartop DOOH remain largely managed buys sold through Uber's advertising team or Adomni for cartop inventory. Availability changes by city, so confirm inventory in your specific metro before you plan a flight.

Does Uber Ads work for a small DTC brand under USD 20K per month?

Yes, but only on Uber Eats Sponsored Listings, and only if you already sell on the platform. At that budget level a Journey Ads flight cannot reach statistical significance in a single market. Put USD 2,000 to 4,000 per month into Sponsored Listings, measure on promo redemption, and revisit Journey Ads once total paid budget clears USD 40,000 per month.
